Year 1

Year 1

Year 1 is the next stepping stone of the children's Lower School learning journey. Throughout the  academic year, children utilise their experiences of the Foundation Stage by applying new skills required for the Key Stage One curriculum. The teachers provide time for children  to consolidate their knowledge and understanding before progressing through the building blocks of the first stages of the National Curriculum. In Year 1, Phonics and early reading development is at the core of many learning opportunities as we aim to ensure that children are well prepared for the Phonics Screening Check in the summer term. More importantly, we aim to ensure that the children step towards to Year 2 as confident, fluent readers. The Year 1 curriculum remains full of enriching child centred learning opportunities, which prepare the children for the next stage in their learning journey and instil a life long Love for Learning.
