Music

Music

At Albemarle, we encourage all children to develop a love of Music. We believe that a high quality music education can deeply enrich a child’s experience at school by developing confidence and expression while also contributing towards an emotionally intelligent ethos.

Our Music Curriculum

Our Music curriculum is delivered through the Wandsworth Music Service who work with Year 1 to Year 6.

Singing

During their learning journey, every child experiences the joy of music through singing together in assemblies and celebration concerts. The power of music brings the whole school together and singing collectively helps to develop a strong sense of what it means to be part of Albemarle. We have specialist teachers who provide quality-singing lessons alongside teaching children how to play various instruments across the school.

Performing

During their time at Albemarle, all children are provided with the opportunity to learn different musical instruments. In early years, they are introduced to music and singing through chanting, singing nursery rhymes and playing percussion instruments. In KS1 our children begin learning the recorder and continue this into KS2. Our children also learn how to play the Djembe in Lower KS2.

As the children move through KS2 they are able to develop their performance skills as they learn to play a brass instrument. Children in Year 4 and Year 5 are currently learning the trombone and trumpet. Across the year, our children play together in celebration concerts, which parents are invited to watch each term.

Listening

During class music lessons, children are given an opportunity to listen to different genres of music. Our music teachers and class teachers ensure that not only are children listening to contemporary music, but they also are given a chance to appraise and show an appreciation for the art by exploring various genres of music.

Composing

Composing is also an integral part of our music curriculum here at Albemarle therefore, children are given an opportunity to put all their skills of listening, appraising and performing into creating their own unique pieces during their music lessons.
