SEND

SEND (Special Educational Needs & Disabilities)

At Albemarle, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive school who believes that every child deserves to be happy, to receive the best possible education, and to make good progress in all areas of their development. We work hard to really know and understand our children, and to support not only them but their families too.

Our Offer

SEND provision at Albemarle varies according to the needs of the individual child. Most of our SEND support is based at school and delivered by our own staff team, however we also work in partnership with a range of professionals who support us in providing advice and creating individual programmes of support. This might include Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Educational Psychologists, Local Authority advisory services, and local SEND charities/organisations.

We know that one of the key ways of achieving this and in meeting the needs of all children, is through building strong relationships and links between families and the school. We want all children and families to have a voice and feel supported by the school, and we welcome families to contact us should they wish to discuss their child's provision or share concerns, so that we can work together to ensure children are happy and can achieve their potential.

Further information on our SEND offer can be found in our SEND Policy or SEND Information Report. For a copy of our SEND Policy, please click HERE; for a copy of our SEND Information Report, please click HERE.

Our Inclusion Team

We have an experienced and well-trained Inclusion team, who work together to plan, deliver and monitor tailor-made support for our pupils.  This includes:

  • Ms Jess Bunker - Deputy Headteacher & Inclusion Lead
  • Ms Hope Walters - SENDCo
  • Ms Korina Antoniades - Dance Movement Psychotherapist (Maternity Leave)
  • Ms Fleur Tavare - Unlocking Potential Therapy Manager

Discussing your child's needs or raising concerns

Should you have any concerns about or wish to discuss support for your child, please come in and talk to us. The first step should be to speak to your child’s class teacher, who will be happy to arrange a suitable time to meet. You can arrange this by:

Parents can also discuss their child's SEND as a part of termly parent-teacher consultation meetings. At these meetings, teachers will share and discuss SEND Support Plans and targets for the term with parents.

As a school, we have designed a ‘Parent’s Concern Checklist’ form to help support you in thinking through your concerns and supporting a conversation with your child’s class teacher. It is completely optional but we hope it will help you in organising and developing your thoughts before meeting with us. A copy can be collected at school office or downloaded from our website by clicking HERE.

Where school feel it will be helpful, or where families' concerns continue following a conversation with the class teacher, parents will be invited to meet with a member of the Inclusion Team, or a Team Around the Child (TAC) meeting may be arranged involving the family and any relevant professionals.

Ordinarily Available Provision

Ordinarily Available Provision (OAP) refers to the reasonable adjustments and provision all schools should be able to offer in order to meet the needs of children with SEND. Wandsworth Council have produced a document to support schools to understand and deliver OAP, and more recently have produced a guide for parents too. Please click here to access Wandsworth's OAP guide for parents.
