“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”
At Albemarle, we completely agree with Dr Seuss and we foster a love for reading throughout the school. We know that reading is an essential skill for life, which is why we read at school every day and encourage our families to do the same.
We have various pedagogical approaches to reading during the school day:
Whole class join in and share the reading
of a book / text
Working in small groups, reading and / or
discussing the same text (starts in Reception)
A Love for Reading at Albemarle
Some of us are lucky enough to read with Murphy or Havoc, our Albemarlian Reading Dogs! Twice a week our furry friends pay us a visit and we read our books to them.
A special place in each of our classrooms is dedicated to reading. Every half term, the book corner is transformed to portray a different theme; we have had vibrant hearts, twinkling stars and autumn leaves adorning our reading areas to name a few.
You may have spotted us reading in the playground too. We have a special reading haven with oak benches and a grand oak chair where we can read to ourselves, our friends, or an adult.
Reading at Home
Our children are encouraged to read every day at home and family members are requested to write in the contact books which the children bring home.
