The Early Years is made up of Nursery and Reception classes. It is where our youngest children begin their learning and make good progress.

Through embedding good practice, staff create a seamless transition between Nursery and Reception.  The stimulating child-lead environments enable all children to settle quickly, build a solid foundation and develop a readiness for future progress.

The Early Years curriculum consists of three Prime areas and four Specific areas.

Prime Areas

  • Communication and language
  • Physical development
  • Personal, social and emotional development

Specific Areas

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design

In Reception, staff complete an Early Years Foundation Stage Profile for each child. The Profile contains examples and samples of children’s learning and attainment. It also helps staff to plan an effective and appropriate curriculum for the next stage of their journey as the child moves in to Year 1.
